This is a fun bead craft project for older
kids. When you're done, you'll have a beautiful bead safety pin with a
picture of a sitting cat. Can be made with plastic or glass
beads.
Color Grid Chart (the numbers
at the top represent each of the 14 small pins):

Materials Required:
- 14 -1 1/16 inch (2.5 cm) safety pins ***
- 1 - 2 inch (5 cm) safety pin ***
- Small screwdriver
- Pliers (optional)
- Small Beads:
- 87 pink beads
- 41 black beads
- 7 gray beads
- 5 green beads
*** Note: All small and large safety pins should be the same color.
Instructions:
First you attach the
appropriate beads onto the small pins, and then you attach the small
pins onto the large pin. Each pin will hang down vertically
from the large pin creating a picture of a cat in front of a red
heart.
1st small pin:
To create the first small pin, you want to attach the beads starting
at the top of the color grid chart (the pin will be attached upside
down). For the 1st pin, slide the beads onto the pin in the
following order:
-
pink
-
pink
-

-

-

Attach the appropriate beads to the
other 13 small pins using the color chart.
For example, the beads will be added
in the following order for the 5th pin:
-
pink
-

-

Now attach the small pins to the
large pin: Using a small screwdriver, loosen the spiral coil on the large
pin (pry it apart - refer to diagram below). Ensure it is loose enough to
slip the small pins onto the large, then around the coil to rest on the opposite
side (where the diagram below says "attach"). This will ensure
the small pins don't fall off and also allows you to attach the pin to a
garment.

Slide the pins onto the
large safety pin starting at column 1 (on the color grid).
Slide the coil part of the small pin onto the large pin (the coil
part is referred to in the above diagram as the area marked
"open here").
Attach all 14 small
pins. Using the screwdriver or pliers, press the coil area of
the large pin closed.
Now pin this to your
favorite garment or hat!
