Kitten Food Information and Tips
Nutritious Kitten Food
Kittens require a special nutritious diet with the proper balance of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. This helps with growth and development, and ensures they get a good start in life. They should never be given cat food as it will be lacking in the nutritional balance they require.
At least a third of the diet should be from a quality protein source such as meat, poultry or fish. Growing kittens need more protein than an adult cat so they develop healthy body tissue and strong muscles. When choosing a kitten food, check the ingredient list on the label to ensure a high quality protein, such as poultry, fish, egg yolk or cheese is listed as one of the first ingredients.
What to Do If Your Kitten Isn't Eating
If your kitten isn’t eating, try enticing them with their favorite food. Also try buying a fresh bag/can, or try another brand. If they still aren’t eating, check its mouth for sores, swelling or signs of pain. Also check their toy supply and make sure toys with small pieces attached are still intact. If you notice something missing, your kitten may have swallowed it. If your kitten hasn't eaten in over 24 hours, call your veterinarian.
